This is the most daunting part of the writing is what to write about myself without boring everyone to tears and yet still keeping it informative. So here I go, I shall start at the beginning.
Africa, in a country now called Zimbabwe I was born some many years ago ... I could say last century but that makes me feel even older. My childhood was pretty mundane and relatively happy but throughout it there is a thread, that thread exists in warm sunny days with blue skies, warm balmy evenings sitting outside, dust devils on cold, dry but sunny winter days, bush, wildlife, community and belonging. After a long war and not wanting to participate in another that seemed to be erupting (but didn't) I left this the home of my heart.
I was very homesick but I learnt that you have to be at home where you are or you will never be 'at home' anywhere. Cape Town became my second home and although I was not fond of the wet, cold winters and the wind it was a wonderful place to live. After a number of years there I found myself in England ... realising I hadn't truly understood wet and cold yet and while the weather didn't impact me initially, after 11 years it was enough! I travelled with my husband in an old American RV through parts of Europe and eventually into Portugal where we stayed for 4 years, 2 of those in the RV with 2 dogs. Economics then drove us to Luxembourg and it was there that I met a number of African people from different countries and came to realise that the warmth of these people was part of who I am and part of what I missed in Europe for almost 20 years.
I've always said to people there are two topics never to start discussing with me, especially after a glass of wine ... one is religion and the other is African politics. I'm passionate about Africa, I love the warmth of the sun, the warmth of the people (OK like everywhere some people are just not warm), the greater simplicity of life, the gems of the wild life and so much more. I have come to one resounding conclusion ... I am African!
On a professional level, I work with Entrepreneurs in various parts of Europe and Africa helping them get their businesses on track and optimise their success. I believe that Entrepreneurship presents an opportunity to regain our lives and live our passions. Fortunately being in the age of the internet I can now work anywhere that I can find a signal and speak to anyone anywhere, this making it even more possible for me to get on the road.
I have a LinkedIn profile if you're interested, I will continue to work and serve my clients as long as I have internet connection (afterall I have to get enough money to do this) or you can follow me on Facebook but best of all subscribe to my blog (black toolbar, above right, envelope) and I'll keep you posted on my adventure!
P.S. the image at the top is of my first motorhoming experience in a super big RV called Monty, I'll tell you more about that in my blog too.
