I LOVED every page of this book and didn't want it to end. I have read many travelogues and this was by far my favourite. I enjoyed Dot's candid style of writing and she covered so many aspects of her journey such as local history, culture, cuisine , fashion ,wildlife, architecture but most of all I loved Dot's vivid descriptions of the African landscapes and the various characters that she encountered on her fascinating journey home to beautiful Zimbabwe. I look forward to the next book!

I could not put this book down and I am not an avid reader, getting bored quickly. I loved every moment of her journey and her easy writing style! Salute this amazing lady! I was truly sorry when the book came to an end!

This is a brilliant story of a lovely lady driving solo from Northern Africa through many countries to go home to Zimbabwe. This touches my heart as I am from the same country as “Dot” the author. A must read for anyone with the same roots, or just loves a good heartfelt adventure of a lifetime.

Such a great, inspiring read about a journey very few would be brave enough to embark on.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dot when she was living in Solsona and have followed her adventures on Going Home to Africa on IG. I have been so looking forward to this book and well worth the wait. An epic story of courage, fortitide and sheer determination written with candour and humour. Dot is a truly remarkable woman!

Dot took me on the journey of a lifetime. I witnessed the challenges, frustrations, joys and overwhelming beauty of Africa from the comfort of my armchair. Her optimism, determination and pragmatism are inspiring and I am a better person for having
taken the journey. Wishing you every success and happiness Dot!

From the first chapter I was hooked and followed Dot's adventures down the coast of West Africa with awe. I bought the book because I too am contemplating something similar and within the first few chapters of Dot's book I had gained a huge amount of insight and had re arranged my plans accordingly. As a guide
on what to do and how to, I found her knowledge invaluable and hope to put it to good use. I took it as encouragement for older women to take the bull by the horns and do what it is that sets your heart on fire, thank you Dot.

If you’ve ever gone through a divorce, needed a life change or adventured alone, then you will feel this book in your heart.
I knew Dot before her journey...I followed her as she made her journey over difficult and washed-out roads, facing challenges and setbacks, triumphs and connections.
As vehicle parts, visas, weather and other obstacles appeared, she always managed to surmount them, with ingenuity, support, pure courage, persistence and a little luck. Maybe it was her belief, self-reliance and fortitude or maybe it was having a goal bigger than herself that made her never give up.
... With Dot’s vivid story-telling, you will feel like you were in the passenger seat with her all the way. If you want to take an epic adventure, celebrate victory after near-certain disaster, experience the scenery and people of Africa, but mostly feel the inspiration and resilience of a strong woman who would never give up, then this is the book for you.

Going home to Africa is an honest, humble and uplifting account of an incredible adventure and Dot’s fighting spirit and firm belief in the universe working with her is inspiring. From the frustrations and doubts of the early parts of the journey, the reader really shares and partakes in Dot’s journey, blessings on the way, growing sense of peace and accomplishment and joy at arriving home. Wonderful - I can’t wait for the next one - and if you liked Nomadland at the cinema - you will love this!

I found “Going Home to Africa” a gripping, authentic, informative and humorous book!
Gripping…in the countless unpredictable travel/road conditions as well as encounters with people (officials & ordinary citizens).
Authentic…the author’s experiences of Africa during her travels are I unembellished but laid bare as they are.
Informative…interesting historical information is weaved in masterfully. I also learned several new vocabulary words!
Humorous…the humor is natural and unforced unexpectedly popping up in unlikely places.
And of course the book is inspirational in many ways.
Great read!

A must for anyone who wants to hit the African roads (or lack there of )
Was a true pleasure to devour this book, page by page.

Dot Bekker…my favourite person. I feel like I know but I don’t. I’ve read your book describing your amazing journey about going home to Zimbabwe. I often speak about you like an old friend because you taught me so much by your experiences and the obstacles you had to conquer. You’re still teaching me today with your powerful posts on Facebook and I thank you for that. You truly are a gift!❤️??

This is the story of an amazingly courageous woman who traveled from Europe to Zimbabwe on her own, and what a story it is!
This book really moved me, having been born in Zimbabwe and lived in South Africa, it made me quite nostalgic and homesick, but at the same time, it was so uplifting and joyful. Dot really brings the scenery to life and showcases the wonderful giving nature that lives in Africa´s people from North to South.
Reading this book I relished each sunrise and sunset, felt every pothole on the road, the anxiety of uncertainty, and the jubilation of each win.
Dot and Bluebell are such an inspiration.
